Discover the truth by playing Realworld's 'Idol Audition Crime Scene'
game!

'Idols War' is a fictional audition program
that appears in the 'Idol Audition Crime Scene' game.

It's a crime scene themed game that won 2nd place in the 1st Crime Contest~!
It gained huge popularity with its idol audition theme.

Today's protagonist!
Creator Modle Studio

Today we've invited the creator team
'Modle Studio' who created this 'Idol Audition Crime Scene'!

Please introduce yourselves first.

(Hyobin) Hello. I'm Na Hyobin who was in charge of planning for the Modle Studio team.
(Yuhyun) Hello. I'm Lee Yuhyun who handled the design.

- How did you two end up on the same team?

(Hyobin) We both love idols, so we decided to plan together. 🎵

How did you come to participate in the contest?

(Hyobin) I originally loved various games like Overwatch and Steam games, so I decided to participate. While browsing the contest site, I discovered the announcement posted in the game genre and joined. I also already loved Realworld's crime scene themed games. I got hooked when I played Realworld crime scene themed games before because they were so fun.

- Oh, which Realworld crime scene themes did you play?

(Hyobin) I played the very first game, DY Cruise, and also Yoon Ik Battalion and Teia-ho.

- Did you often participate in contests before?

(Yuhyun) Yes. I'm a contest killer. 🙆‍♀️
(Hyobin) What? I'm not though. 🤷‍♀️
(Yuhyun) That's right.
(Hyobin) Please stop spreading false information.

- Have you created content or games before?

(Hyobin) This is the first time we've fully produced something with actual results that people could play.
(Yuhyun) Previously, I participated in a Minecraft contest and received a participation award.

Where did you get inspiration for 'Idol Audition Crime Scene'?

(Hyobin) Well, for inspiration, we referenced many existing audition programs. When we were creating it, we saw an article about three audition programs launching simultaneously and started preparing. Actually, idol audition programs have been trending recently.
(Yuhyun) Bo*ys Planet, So* Fantasy, and Pic*time.
(Hyobin) Yuhyun and I share a common interest in idols, and the timing was good, so we went for it. It's also a field we're both confident in.
(Yuhyun) It's a genre we know inside and out. 😎

- The research and settings for idol auditions were detailed and realistic.
Is there any audition program you enjoyed watching?

(Hyobin) I was into EXO at the time, so I didn't watch it. Even though I didn't watch, the syndrome was so huge that I was interested.
(Yuhyun) I absolutely loved the Pro*duce series. I especially liked Season 2. I had a favorite idol but I betrayed them and watched it. 🙄

- Have you been into idol fandom? Or are you currently?

(Hyobin) Girl groups are hot these days. NewJeans, IVE, and LE SSERAFIM are popular, and among them I like IVE the most.
(Yuhyun) I like NMIXX.

- Yuhyun, do you know the meaning behind the group name NMIXX?

(Yuhyun) Of course. You can tell from their music videos. Mixing n utopias, moving forward. That kind of meaning. Our limits are endless...? Something like that. 🤔

(Yuhyun) I was explaining their worldview.

Are there any memorable incidents or episodes during game production?

(Yuhyun) When the finals advancement was announced, the game changed a lot. At that time, I made a mistake and uploaded the wrong timeline item.
(Hyobin) Oh, right. My heart sank.

- What other difficulties did you face?

(Hyobin) I worried a lot about whether we were going in the right direction. Yuhyun is easily swayed, so whenever I had concerns, she would just agree, which wasn't very helpful.
(Yuhyun) Even when she was worrying, she'd suddenly come back from showering and say "I've decided!" What's in that shower?
(Hyobin) I get a lot of ideas while showering.
(Yuhyun) She becomes a different person after showering.
(Hyobin) Taking a breather seems to bring better ideas. We discovered the contest late, so we worked all day for a short period.

- Were you short on time?

(Yuhyun) On the last day, we'd sleep at 5 AM and wake up at 9 AM.
(Hyobin) Time was tight, but the feedback was excellent, and they gave us a separate revision period, which was great.

- What's most important to you?

(Hyobin) Fun comes first. Messages are important too, but if it's not fun, the message won't get across. I make it fun first, then add the message.
(Yuhyun) When making crime scene themed games, evidence is most important.
(Hyobin) Yuhyun made everything exactly as I wanted. She'd look at my item plans and design them exactly the same. Even the errors were identical... 😂 Even though it was an error, she trusted me. For an item called "demand notice," the amounts were different - 100 million and 80 million won - but she made it exactly as written.
(Yuhyun) There was so much evidence that I made it mindlessly. 🤯 Well, as a marketer in my current job, I think titles are most important. Something that can instantly grab attention.
(Hyobin) I like titles that let you know what kind of game it is at a glance.

- What was the most joyful and rewarding moment during the contest?

(Hyobin) When I received the award email.
(Yuhyun) Right, right. I screamed.
(Hyobin) I was on the subway, so I couldn't scream.
(Yuhyun) The high play count made me proud.

Congratulations once again. 🥳

Did you originally like crime scene themes?

(Hyobin) Yes, I originally liked them. I watched all the crime scene variety shows.
(Yuhyun) I watched them three or four times. I watched everything by PD Jung Jongyon. Society Game, The Genius, Girl's Mystery Class, Great Escape, etc...

- Which was the most fun?

(Yuhyun) Girl's Mystery Class.
(Hyobin) Girl's Mystery Class and Society Game.

- What kind of content do you usually enjoy most?

(Yuhyun) Hyobin likes dark movies and dramas.
(Hyobin) I like mystery movies and dramas, and I dislike romance the most. I need someone to die first to get interested. 😵 I watch various genres without discrimination and also like overseas dramas. Recently, Black Mirror Season 6 was so much fun, and I like Stranger Things too.
(Yuhyun) I like gaming broadcasts. I loved Dea* by Deadlight.

- Story VS Gameplay

(Yuhyun) That's tough. But gameplay is important.
(Hyobin) (From a player's perspective) Story is important.

- Why did you actively accept feedback (while participating in the contest)?

(Hyobin) The feedback scratched the itchy spots we couldn't reach, like scratching an itch. We could improve through the staff's feedback. Especially the feedback asking us to highlight idol characteristics more was the best. It helped us set the right direction. 👍

Please tell us about your next work or future activities.

(Hyobin) I want to create something with idol themes again. I learned so much from making it for the contest and seeing it through to release. I want to apply what I learned to create something with much better quality, more fun, highlighting the idol concept - either a Season 2 or a female idol version. 🎤
(Yuhyun) I'm working hard on YouTube, but I also want to make a female idol version. Super sparkly ✨
(Hyobin) We'll make it again.
(Yuhyun) I would've been disappointed if we didn't. 🥺

- Finally, is there anything you'd like to say to the players?

(Hyobin) Thank you for playing with such enjoyment and leaving fun reviews. Uniquely fun ones.
(Yuhyun) Right.
(Hyobin) I was grateful. Honestly, you didn't have to leave reviews. I've often not left reviews myself, so I reflected on that. Thank you so much for leaving reviews. I was especially amazed and proud when you called the characters by their names like Dojeon and Palgu, as if they were alive. It was great that you saw the characters as real people. That's why I want to create again using those characters. Please play again when we do.
(Yuhyun) I saw someone who drew fan art and was so grateful. The person on Tw*tter who drew all five characters small! I was so happy that people who could immerse themselves in those roles, idol fans, played our game.

Thank you to the Modle Studio team
who participated in this interview,
and to everyone who read this interview!
