This time, it's 'immersive dining.' Last summer, we introduced you to Singapore's immersive restaurant 'Absurdities,' where diners move between different locations during their meal. Now, even more examples are emerging. We invite you to the world of immersive dining that offers customers new experiences.
'Elementa' at 'The Gallery'
This is 'The Gallery' located in Los Angeles, USA. They introduce themselves as the ultimate destination combining immersive entertainment and dining experiences, making us curious about what kind of experience they actually provide.
'The Gallery' offers an immersive dining experience called 'Elementa.' True to its name, guests can enjoy a five-course meal over two hours themed around the five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether. They say that every surface around you - tables, windows, and walls - transforms into living, moving works of art.
As you can see in the attached video, various interactive technologies are being used. The effects for each of the five elements are impressive - lava flows during the fire theme, rain falls during the water theme, and so on. These themes are connected not only to the effects but also to the food. For example, vegetable dishes are served during the 'earth' theme, and fish dishes during the 'water' theme.
The Gallery's Elementa offers the fun of watching a show while dining. It seems like it would be quite a new experience.
'La Forêt Secrète' at Disneyland Paris
Disney, the leader in customer experiences that transport guests into the worlds of movies and animation, has also shared some exciting news. In March 2025, Disneyland Paris opened a new restaurant called 'La Forêt Secrète' (The Secret Forest). What would Disney's take on immersive dining be like?
First, they're showcasing an elegant atmosphere and Michelin-starred chef 'Jean Imbert' to provide a French fine dining experience. Theme park restaurants are often stereotyped as crowded and chaotic places with expensive prices but lacking taste. Challenging this prejudice, the Disneyland Paris team says they've paid attention to every detail, from high-end restaurant-like interiors to tableware and ingredients.
And true to a Disneyland restaurant, we can see dishes inspired by famous Disney works like 'Beauty and the Beast,' 'Ratatouille,' and 'Snow White.' It seems like it would be a special experience that could satisfy not only children but also adults who grew up watching Disney animations.
Immersive Dining: Adding Value Through Immersive Experiences
Even 'Immersive Fort Tokyo,' the world's first immersive theme park, is preparing an immersive play experience combined with dining. At 24,800 yen per person (approximately 240,000 won), it's quite expensive content, so its success will be closely watched. But we'd like to applaud the attempt to try something new.
There are various reasons why immersive dining, at the intersection of dining and entertainment, is becoming a trend. Technologies and production techniques like AR and projection mapping have advanced, and it's also related to the emergence of Generation MZ, who value 'Instagrammable' places and unique experiences. While prices are higher than typical restaurants, they're adding value through immersive experiences.
We live in an era where 'immersive' is attached to every experience. It won't end with dining.
