Hello, this is Realworld. On February 5, 2024, Realworld's new offline space will open its doors. Is it 'Realworld Seongsu' Store No. 2? Or perhaps a pop-up store?
It's actually a complex entertainment space called 'Realworld Clue Seongsu.' The name alone might not make it easy to understand, right? We imagine our subscribers are also curious about what kind of space 'Realworld Clue Seongsu' is and how it differs from 'Realworld Seongsu.'
To explain what 'Realworld Clue Seongsu' is, we first need to understand 'Realworld Clue.' 'Realworld Clue' is Realworld's mystery content brand that combines the existing 'Real Crime Scene' and 'Murder Mystery' genre content. 'Realworld Clue' typically involves multiple players taking on different roles to solve criminal cases or complete story endings in a game format.
In other words, you can think of 'Realworld Clue Seongsu' as a playground where you can enjoy 'Realworld Clue' as offline content.
'Realworld Clue Seongsu' features attractive spaces and content. How was this space created? To celebrate the opening of 'Realworld Clue Seongsu,' let's meet the UniqueGood members who created this place and explore the stories behind the space and content.
We asked the New Business Planning & Development Team, who were in charge of content development. Manager Choi Su-min from the New Business Planning & Development Team provided the answers to our questions.
Q. How does 'Realworld Clue Seongsu' differentiate itself from existing 'Murder Mystery Cafes'?
A. We thought about why players enjoy offline 'Murder Mystery' or 'Crime Scene' themed games (referring to the genre, not a specific variety show). One of the user feedback questions for 'Realworld Clue Seongsu's' 'Yoon Ik Company Murder Case' was 'What's the most important aspect of offline crime scene games,' and 80% of respondents chose 'the fun of deduction or the game's story.'
Existing 'Crime Scene Cafes' were created by adding 'Crime Scene' themed games to spaces similar to escape room cafes. The clues needed for deduction were directly implemented in the space, and players would search through drawers and corners to gather clues. In other words, they specialized in providing atmosphere and immersion like escape room cafes.
However, because players directly examine and handle clues and props, they get damaged easily and are difficult to maintain. Paper with writing often gets erased or worn out. Also, if the clues are designed to be too difficult to find, it reduces the quality of deduction. The price is also around the late 20,000 won range, similar to existing escape rooms, which can be quite burdensome for some people.
In other words, while escape rooms with heavy emphasis on interior design and devices might work, 'Crime Scene' themed or 'Murder Mystery' games should focus more on the fun of deduction.
'Realworld Clue Seongsu' combines the advantages of both online and offline formats. The advantages of offline include players facing each other to act out characters and the sense of immersion. We enhanced immersion with videos and background music that match the content's atmosphere. It also has the advantages of online formats - clues can be viewed intuitively to improve deduction quality, and we've lowered the price compared to existing offline 'Crime Scene Cafes.'
Q. The first theme of 'Realworld Clue Seongsu' is the popular 'Yoon Ik Company Murder Case' from Realworld. What are the content differences between the Realworld version and the 'Realworld Clue Seongsu' version?
A. The existing Real Crime Scene version also had clear limitations as a mobile version. The biggest limitation was communication. Mobile versions usually rely heavily on voice chat, which is different from actually seeing and talking to someone face-to-face. Voice-only chat differs from the detailed expressions and gestures you experience offline in person. Also, when discussing clues, some people felt inconvenience because everyone had to look at clues on their individual phones.
Realworld Clue Seongsu solved the limitations of the existing mobile version - the difficulty in communication - through offline interaction. Acquired clues are spread out on the table through 'disclosure,' making discussion much easier. Since clues necessary for deduction are implemented as cards, we maintained the advantage of intuitive understanding like the mobile version.
Um, can I give you a little spoiler? Realworld Clue Seongsu has military uniforms prepared for everyone joining Yoon Ik Company. When you play the Yoon Ik Company game wearing these uniforms, don't you think it would look like a great movie, just like Realworld's original series?
Q. What was the most challenging aspect when planning the 'Realworld Clue Seongsu' content?
A. Converting the content into a board game wasn't that difficult. Of course, there were many aspects that both planners and designers had to consider, from card size to readability. To play board games smoothly, you need to read the rule book and understand it before starting the game. If the rules are difficult, this process can become a hurdle. So I think the most challenging part was probably the video that guides and facilitates the game.
We needed explanations friendly enough that even people who had never played mystery games could understand just by watching the video. They made it intuitively easy to understand using not only narration but also motion graphics. The quality wasn't compromised either. The video includes a timer to track game time, and even this timer was meticulously crafted by our motion graphics expert, showing the level of quality we put into it.
Every piece of Realworld Clue Seongsu content involved tremendous effort from our members - from planners to designers to video producers. With so much work from various people, we hope everyone enjoys it to the fullest.
Q. What kind of experience do you want players to have at 'Realworld Clue Seongsu'?
A. Above all, I hope they have a highly immersive experience. I think Realworld's greatest strength is the immersion of becoming a character in the game. Although Realworld has created truly diverse games so far, the main motto has always been immersion. From Realworld's mobile games to outdoor games to the offline space Realworld Seongsu - they're all games characterized by highly immersive experiences.
And I hope it becomes a new experience. The genre itself is unfamiliar, but Realworld Clue Seongsu is a newly created format even within that genre. I hope the experience at Realworld Clue Seongsu becomes a positive one for visitors. There's that saying these days: 'I can't believe this existed - I've been missing out on life.' I hope we can give people that kind of feeling. Of course, we absolutely don't mean they've actually been missing out on life. (laughs)
Q. Please give us a brief introduction to upcoming 'Realworld Clue' content.
A. Currently we only have 'Yoon Ik Company Murder Case,' which was mobile content, but more diverse content will be opening in the future. 'Hide and Seek,' which I mentioned earlier, is content you can only experience at Realworld Clue Seongsu and is Realworld's first Murder Mystery.
Murder Mystery is a game where you complete the story's ending rather than revealing the perpetrator of an incident. Should I say it focuses on 'why' rather than 'who'? And rather than a game that ends by catching the culprit, the game's ending is determined by making 'choices.' This 'Hide and Seek' is personally my favorite among the Realworld Clue Seongsu games. (whispers)
We're also preparing to operate games by Realworld creators at Clue Seongsu. Realworld has original planners, but we also have many creators who showcase quality beyond our originals. We promise to present more diverse and interesting content.
Q. Finally, is there anything you'd like to say?
A. Realworld has tried multi-player mystery games in various ways. Starting with 'Crime Scene' genre games and turtle soup games that you're familiar with, we have multi-player horror games, cooperative games, and so-called friendship-destroying games too. In the future, we want to show you an even greater expansion of diverse multi-player mystery games at 'Realworld Clue Seongsu.'
This offline store 'Realworld Clue Seongsu' is the beginning of our first challenge. We want to make Realworld a meeting place for those who love the mystery genre and for those who want to play fun games with people around them! We ask for your interest, support, and reservations.
