The Art of Vuja De: The Science of Immersion and Memory
- Storytelling expert, Song In-hyuk
Before the lecture began, we conducted a <10-minute talk>, one of the LETS KEY magic communication techniques, to warm up the atmosphere.
Actually, one of the reasons people come to lectures like this is to see what kind of people attend and to meet new people. But when you actually meet people for the first time, it can be daunting to know what to talk about first.
That's when you can use this kind of communication technique!
[LETS KEY] 10 min. Talk
1. Find two partners.
2. Interview each other for 5 minutes each.
3. Introduce the person you interviewed to everyone.
LETS KEY is
a communication design program that creates energy flow by using intrinsic motivation and behavioral triggers to naturally immerse and engage people in situations.
It can be used as a communication tool that breaks down barriers between people and connects each person's wisdom and interests to generate organizational culture and innovation.
It has been praised by TED and Amazon Zappos as an innovative culture program.
All the participants had time to get to know each other and introduced one another. I was really amazed at how well everyone introduced their interview partners. It was wonderful to be able to communicate about what work they do, what interests them, why they came here, and various other stories. It was an honor to meet such brilliant people who are passionate about their respective work^^
Following this warm atmosphere, storytelling expert CEO Song In-hyuk proceeded with the lecture.
Why is storytelling important?
Only by telling stories can we move to the next stage.
Only by telling stories can ideas that existed only in our minds be revealed to the world.
Everyone talks about storytelling. And everyone wants to tell their story well - their own story. They say to build your personal brand, and to do that, you need to be good at storytelling. So we always want to tell good stories and want to have special stories about ourselves. But when we actually try to start telling stories, we become overwhelmed about what to talk about. The lecture covered what points to focus on to leave a strong impression.
Why can't I see it?
Why don't I choose it even though I've seen it?
Why do I make different choices even though I know better?
Why can't we see those points? And why aren't our stories chosen? And why do we make different choices even when we know better?
It's because of these reasons:
1. If it's not visualized, it's not remembered.
Our thoughts are forgotten faster than we think. Even if we think we know something right now, if we don't record it or repeat it several times immediately, it won't be remembered.
2. If it's not distinctive, it's not chosen.
People quickly find and choose unique things. If there's no UniqueGood point, it won't be chosen. Those who are married probably chose their current spouse because they were somehow different. We're drawn to distinctive points. (Even if that's not the case now^^hehe)
3. If it can't be transferred, it can't spread.
Even if you create a story, it will be difficult to spread if you don't tell it continuously.
So the three strategies of Magic Telling to create such points are as follows:
Vuja De | Frame | Storytelling
This time, we discussed Vuja De.
Deja Vu vs Vuja De
Deja Vu vs Vuja De
You've probably heard of deja vu a lot. It's that familiarity of feeling like you've experienced a situation before, like seeing something you saw in a dream. So what is Vuja De? It's noticing something different, a small difference, in a familiar situation!
We need to pay attention to this Vuja De.
Storytelling expert CEO Song In-hyuk also explained deja vu and Vuja De this way:
Cortisol is a substance released during stressful situations, and oxytocin is released when we're happy or curious. Obviously, oxytocin is the more active substance. It's the substance released in our bodies when we feel Vuja De. Oxytocin is released when we see something new or when a brilliant idea comes to mind.
The case he mentioned for deja vu was the Oxy incident.
When the Oxy incident happened, did you all throw away your Oxy products?
Surprisingly, even though people recognized the danger, they thought like this: 'Ah... there's still a lot left, it's a waste, I'll just leave it and throw it away later.' People know about situations like this but don't immediately try to change the situation. It's because it's difficult to easily escape from that situation.
And there's this incredible phrase in the right image: 'Idiots, get out!' He gave this as an example of a technique using deja vu.
A person named Nakajima Kaoru (a big business person in Japan's Amway network) once gave a lecture. At that time, he said, 'Idiots, get out!' If we had been there, what would have happened? Everyone would probably think to themselves: 'Well... I'm not an idiot. I shouldn't leave.' Our sense of relief (deja vu) heard this story and held back the desire to leave.
I also felt like my brain was awakened when I heard this story. Usually, when we promote something, what do we do? We say things like 'Don't go~' 'Please do this~' trying to hold people back, but people don't actually respond to those words.
You who visited UniqueGood are truly a UniqueGood person!
Now let's experience the energy of Vuja De directly through this novel experience with the image below.
Absolutely do not think of the answer!!!
Did you absolutely, absolutely not think of the answer while the two images were passing by? You were probably automatically thinking 'six six six six six six 66666' in your mind, just like me. Amazingly, when we face strong suppression, we tend to act in opposition to it. The more you tell us not to do something, the more we do it... hehe When I heard this story, I thought it was like being contrarian.
By utilizing deja vu and Vuja De well like this, we can create stories that capture people's ears and hearts.
Small things make the difference, but that difference is not small.
Doesn't this make you curious? Doesn't it make you think? Small things do make the difference, but that difference is not small? You find yourself pondering this.
We've already moved from a state of deja vu to a state of Vuja De. We've already become interested in this story and started thinking about it.
This is exactly what Vuja De is. I hope you can create stories that make people stop thinking and become interested.
UNIQUE Good x Magic 01 . Lesson Summary: Vuja De
Utilize the principles of Vuja De and deja vu.
Use humans' problem-solving desire as leverage - instead of forcing, let them think. Opportunities lie in the opposite direction of the familiar direction.
In March, following this session, we plan to directly experience a storytelling canvas model where you can practice storytelling yourself.
Even if you didn't attend the February lecture, it will be a special lecture and workshop where you can learn plenty, so we ask for your participation^^
