Many Realworld players have probably thought,
'I'd love to try creating content myself!'
For those people, we conducted an interview with the <Bokdak Bokdak> team, who won the grand prize in the recently concluded Realworld Local Creator Training Program, the Gwangju-Hada Project.
The <Bokdak Bokdak> team traveled back and forth between Seoul and Gwangju multiple times for research, ultimately creating outstanding content.
What exactly drove them to be so passionate?
Grand Prize Winner <The Ageless Wizard Audentia>
Bokdak Bokdak Team
Q. Hello, nice to meet you. Congratulations on winning the grand prize. Could you please introduce your team first?
I'm Heo Su-hyeon, the leader of the Bokdak Bokdak team. I majored in creative writing and studied game scenarios, and I'm also very interested in urban regeneration and local content. For me, the Realworld competition perfectly encompassed all my interests. It allows you to capture the charm of local areas through engaging stories.
I'm team member Seon Jun-yong, majoring in public administration. While I don't know much about content creation, I became interested in this field while learning about urban regeneration projects.
Q. What does your team name <Bokdak Bokdak> mean?
Bokdak Bokdak means 'a bustling, crowded state where many people gather in a small space.'
It contains our intention to make Gwangju bustling with young people.
Q. I'm curious about how you two came to form a team.
We first worked together on a team project in a general education class, and we had pretty good chemistry. Since we shared interests in urban regeneration, local content, and games, we decided to participate in the Gwangju-Hada program together.
Q. It sounds like you're a really well-matched combination since you had good chemistry working together! So how did you learn about Realworld and Gwangju-Hada and decide to apply?
I already knew about Realworld. I briefly participated in a content study group, where it was introduced as trendy gaming content.
Q. I understand you both live in the metropolitan area. Traveling back and forth to Gwangju multiple times for research and testing must not have been easy. What made you apply for a program in Gwangju despite this?
Gwangju is quite far, so the research trips were really demanding. We had to plan for 8-10 hours of round-trip travel from home for our activities. Nevertheless, Gwangju has historically significant places and various charms. I'm particularly interested in urban regeneration, and while researching Gwangju, I fell in love with a place called Chungchun Balsan Village. So I applied without hesitation.
Q. I'm curious why you chose Balsan Village. I'm also wondering why you planned fantasy content set against the retro backdrop of Balsan Village.
A. Balsan Village has diverse colors. The various murals created through urban regeneration projects, the colorful streets, and the blue roofs left a strong impression.
The flower pots that residents tend, the charm of the steep hills, and the faded colors all blend together harmoniously.
Looking at this village, the theme of 'time' came to mind.
I felt it was a sensory place where past and present time collide and harmonize. Expanding on this concept, we created Audentia, who is obsessed with youth and beauty, and completed our current story.
Q. I see. You have excellent storytelling abilities. One last question. Do you have plans for future projects using Realworld Studio?
A. Yes. Although the research trips were challenging, creating stories, making quests, and turning the charm of places into content was incredibly fun. We'd like to release our next work in the not-too-distant future.
