[Jeju] Classic: Between Experiential Tours and Mission Games

2022-04-05리얼월드

Hello! I'm BEE, a planner at Realworld!
With the beautiful weather of March upon us,
we went on a Jeju Insight Trip!
(It was such a sweet business trip - legitimate company card usage HONEYJAM)

Wait a minute!
What do three planners do when they go on a business trip to Jeju?
Answer) Escape rooms😉😉😉

The Jeju outdoor escape rooms we'll share with you today are
Realworld classic content created by general creators:
'Bariya, Where Are You Going?', 'Pelong, From Gapado' and
'Mystery of the Red Coral' enjoyed along the Olle Trail!

Bariya, Where Are You Going?

Jeju classic content created by a general creator

Starting from Yongduam Rock and following the northern coastal road, we could easily enjoy
'Bariya, Where Are You Going?'
Despite Jeju's ever-changing weather,
fortunately we were able to play on a very nice day.

How fun it is to play games while enjoying Jeju's scenery after being stuck in the office all the time~
My colleague who loves classic games was so excited, bouncing around like a puppy on a walk, making a complete ruckus

What really surprised us planners was
'Wow, it's really different from just looking at game images versus being at the actual location!'

Playing the game overlaid on the blue ocean spread out before us,
even the same space or the same game
felt richer and more charming.

.

If you think of classic content as a 'mission game',
you might feel resistant thinking
it would be too difficult and require too much thinking,
but 'Bariya, Where Are You Going?' could be easily solved while enjoying the beautiful scenery.

Pelong, From Gapado

Jeju classic content created by a general creator

Thanks to the game, I visited Gapado for the first time!!
(Gapado is located near Marado at the southern tip of Jeju Island.)

As soon as the game started,
we could actually meet the game character 'Nyaong Halmang' in person lol!

'Pelong, From Gapado' is a course where you ride a bicycle around the outer part of Gapado
and then walk up the middle part of Gapado on foot!

The sea breeze was so refreshing when riding the bicycle...
(I think I left my mind there... I want to go back...)

When we got off the bicycles and walked toward the center of the island,
we could see canola flower fields blooming on both sides of the path!
(Secret: the planners got excited and took selfies)

'Spring in Jeju is really beautiful!'
'How did they find such a beautiful space!'
We just kept exclaiming in admiration ㅎ

As expected, the most important thing in classic content
is ultimately
'space' - it was time to realize this once again!

Most of the problems were simple quizzes that could be solved quickly,
so 'Pelong, From Gapado' also
felt more like a 'tour' around Gapado
rather than a brain-wracking 'mission'!

Mystery of the Red Coral

Outdoor mission game created by Play the Jeju

https://www.jejuolle.org/playthejeju/

The team leader had been wanting to try 'Mystery of the Red Coral' even before the Jeju business trip!
"It's an outdoor escape room that takes 5 hours of walking to solve! I really want to try it!!"

My colleague and I, who don't have great stamina, worried:
"It's hard enough just walking for 5 hours...
While playing a game... is it even possible...?"
(Will we survive....?)
But!!!

'Still, as Realworld planners,
if we've come all the way down to Jeju, we should at least try!'
I think that's the mindset we challenged it with.

Since it was a course following the Olle Trail,
every place we went was spectacular!
(Though after 2 hours, we didn't have time to look at the scenery...)

At first, we planners could gain insights like
'This kind of problem is really innovative!'
or 'Wow! This space is so beautiful!'

Especially since outdoor games generally need to be easy,
but this game had difficult problems that still felt rewarding to solve,
which actually sparked our competitive spirit!

'Games played outdoors' - do they necessarily have to be easy?

aka. Classic content, outdoor escape rooms

That's what we thought!
(We felt groundbreaking fun, at least in the beginning.)

But 'Mystery of the Red Coral' was
basically an outdoor 'mission game'...
Meaning the problems were very hard and no answers were even given....

We were already in the middle of the Olle Trail so we couldn't turn back,
the sun was setting,
we couldn't figure out the answers even with hints,
our stamina was depleted,
and toward the latter half, I don't know what state of mind we were walking in😂

When creating content that can be enjoyed outdoors,
we got the insight that... playtime needs to be considered...

Overall Assessment
Where should outdoor content go from here!?

Experiential Tours vs Outdoor Mission Games

Spending time in the wonderful space called 'Jeju Island'
made us think about 'classic content'
that we had temporarily set aside.

For example,
What kind of experience should outdoor games give to players?
Do the problems necessarily have to be easy?
Is classic content a 'game' or a 'tour'?
These were the kinds of concerns we had!

After experiencing various content
and discussing among planners,
our conclusion was!!

1. There must be something special unique to that space.
2. Difficulty level might not matter.
3. Classic content might not be a 'game' at all(!)

For a while, classic content was
perceived as 'easily solvable games'.

So for tourists who don't prefer 'games' and
players who like 'hard mission games',
it was in a somewhat ambiguous position...

So!!
'Experiential tours' with tour-like characteristics that have almost no missions, and
'Mission games' full of brain-breaking hard missions
could also be new directions for outdoor content!

With these insights,
we're currently changing the existing name 'Classic' (spoiler)
and preparing even more diverse content! (secret)

Please show lots of interest in
the various outdoor content coming in the future🙇‍♀️🙇‍♂️
Well then, 20000~!
