Hello everyone!
I'm really feeling how more and more people are showing interest in and getting curious about Realworld lately!
So! I thought I'd share some behind-the-scenes stories from a Realworld planner's perspective.
(Actually, this is a post I'm writing with the hope that even more people will become curious about Realworld. 🙇♀️🙇♂️ )
Planner... it's too cold, I really can't do this...
Realworld currently has various types of game themes available.
There are themes you can enjoy only through the app (online) like 'COOK UP' or 'Murder at Elegy Hotel',
and there are also city-scale themes you can enjoy outdoors like 'Jeongdong Secret Office' or 'Secret of the Sun Corps'!
Many of you probably discovered Realworld through 'Jeongdong Secret Office' or 'Secret of the Sun Corps'.
These city-scale themes are great when enjoyed outdoors in good weather
because you get to play games, feel like you're on an outing, and make memories - it's a triple win!
But!!
The biggest downside of these city-scale themes is that
they're heavily affected by the weather...😢😭
No matter how fun and easy a theme is, if you do it on a hot.. cold.. rainy.. or very windy day?
It results in extreme boredom 😱 and your stamina gets completely wrecked 😷 ...ㅠㅠ
Come to think of it, I still vividly remember that blazing heat from July 2018 when we opened Secret of the Sun Corps.
That's probably why among the reviews left after games,
there are quite a lot of weather-related stories like:
'The sunlight was so harsh and it was too hot, so we took shelter in a cafe to cool down before going back out.'
'The cold wind was blowing and it was so cold that we had to wear hats and gloves, making it uncomfortable to play' and so on.
So!!
We decided we needed to quickly expand games that are less affected by weather! And that's how these games were born:
'Agent X' enjoyed at Understand Avenue, 'Records of Cheong' enjoyed at the Korean Food Culture Center near Jonggak Station,
and most recently, 'Miracle' at Seoul Theater opened!

Internally, we call this type of game 'Field Type'.
Using the word 'Field' which means yard, area, or territory,
we use it to refer to games that take place only within a specific area (or building).
Actually, the concept of Field Type existed even before we created 'Secret of the Sun Corps',
but as we focused on making city-scale games, it kept getting pushed back in priority.
Anyway! We're gradually creating games that are less affected by weather like this!
For those who don't like activities that require a lot of physical energy or want to enjoy Realworld without being greatly affected by weather,
we recommend Field Type Realworld games like 'Agent X', 'Records of Cheong', and 'Miracle'!!! 👍👍👍
The final location of The Lost Finale mission was somewhere I hadn't expected!
It felt like I made an unexpected discovery, and there was a flower wall so I took lots of photos~!
Those who've played Dongdaemun Realworld 'The Lost Finale' will know.
In the final part of the game, you had to go up to the 13th floor of Doota Mall
and find a spot like the one in the photo below to complete the mission!
There's also a behind-the-scenes story about the process of setting up this location.
As you know, Doota Mall has many shoppers and is a building with strict security and management,
so to install anything, you have to go through multiple security procedures and enter only after business hours.
And work could only proceed after 11 PM.... Wow!!
So we headed to Dongdaemung late at night with props like mannequins, clothes, carpets, wooden boxes, and more.
(My colleague planner H who worked on the site setup with me that day. Scroll down to see her photo! 🕵️♀️ )
Carrying separated mannequins, red carpets, and strange wooden boxes, we probably looked like magicians.
And the security procedures were more complicated than expected - we had to go back and forth between floors processing paperwork,
and we wandered around for a while unable to find the entrance, feeling like we were looking for Platform 9¾...ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
(Was this the beginning of the chaotic daily life of planners that was about to unfold...?)
Anyway, after all the ups and downs, we arrived at the 13th floor of Doota Mall where we needed to set up.
That was probably around 1 AM... exhausted.....
I remember being so tired and struggling because we had to work in a half-asleep state.
But thinking of the players who would play the game, we crouched down and set everything up meticulously with sincere care,
and checked multiple times to make sure there wouldn't be any dangerous parts.
Planner H expressing her joy after finishing the work. At that time, it had only been about a month since she joined the company...
Seeing her shaky eyes after the night shift, I told her this was my first time doing this kind of night work too...ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
(Thank you once again to her for joining me with cheerful laughter despite the unexpected night work!! 🙇♀️🙇♀️🙇♀️ )
Since Realworld utilizes many locations that aren't 100% under our control,
it seems like many unexpected variables occur during the game creation process, especially in these on-site setup parts.
There were places we had our eyes on thinking they'd be great to use for games,
but we had to give up because we couldn't get cooperation, or we'd lose energy having to find alternatives ㅠㅠ
But despite these various variables, when we do our best to create games
and see players enjoying the games and leaving good reviews, we get energized again!
Oh! Everyone, this post has gotten too long!
Oh! The pizza 🍕 we just ordered has arrived! I should go eat!
We ordered from a pizza place that recently opened near our office,
and if we try it and it's good, we'll introduce it to you too.
The name was... Woo-dang-tang Pizza I think... anyway, it had a unique name ㅋㅋㅋ
Besides this pizza, there was something called 'Giant Hot Wings' that looked so delicious
that we ordered 3 servings as a side menu to eat with the pizza! 😍😍😍
Oops ㅋㅋ enough TMI, I'll go eat pizza now!
