Hello, this is Realworld. If you've been using Realworld for a while, you probably know that Realworld is constantly evolving. As evidence of this, the Realworld app has noticeably changed in just a few years. The angular brand identity from the early days has been softened, and the purple background color has faded so much that you can only feel traces of it in the updated brand color system.
Currently, we are in the process of comprehensively refining Realworld's UI under the leadership of the Product Office. During this process, we were curious about the thoughts and opinions of Realworld users, which is why we conducted Realworld user research in Q1 2024.
In this post, we'd like to share the findings from our 'Realworld User Research.' Since the purpose of this report is to gather user opinions on the usability of Realworld services, please note that the questions and responses are tailored to this area.
Realworld users are Gen MZ + Alpha
A total of 1,061 people responded to this research. Among them, 50% were in their 20s, 22% in their 30s, 21% were teenagers, and 7% were 40 or older. Looking at the proportions, it shows that we encompass both Gen MZ and Gen Alpha. As previously featured in University Tomorrow's 'Millennial-Z Generation Trends 2022,' Realworld is truly a service beloved by the younger generation.
Main page is satisfactory, but getting desired information is difficult
Since this was research for UI improvement, there were also questions about app screens. While main page satisfaction was 73%, which is generally satisfactory, sub-UI showed higher dissatisfaction rates. Reasons included 'prices are not listed' and 'it's hard to find free games.' We need to think about how users can easily and quickly get the information they want.
Player count matters for game selection, users want interaction with others
The information that influences Realworld users when choosing games was 'recommended player count,' 'story,' 'difficulty,' 'estimated time,' and 'price,' in that order. The fact that 'recommended player count' is the top consideration shows that demand for multiplayer games is highest. The relatively lower ranking of price indicates that users are willing to pay for enjoyable time with people around them.
Similarly, when asked if they had played other games besides Realworld, they mentioned 'Mafia42' and escape room apps. Since 'Mafia42' is also a deduction game with multiple participants, there were responses saying they played it because interaction with other users was fun.
Looking forward to multiplayer deduction games in the future
What games do Realworld users expect? First, 'deduction' genre ranked first across all age groups. Demand for multiplayer games was also highest, showing that there's consistent demand for genres like 'Realworld Clue' type games where multiple people participate in deduction.
One more thing, something big is coming
Realworld continues to think about constant change today. But the real transformation starts now. Currently, the Design Solution Team is leading the Realworld rebranding task force, and Realworld's brand identity will also be newly updated. You're probably curious about what it will look like, and we'll share related news soon.
While Realworld continues to evolve, we won't forget that customers are at the center of it all, and we'll always listen to user opinions. Thank you.
