Local Tourism Resources Ask, Seongsu Hot Places Answer: Tourism Industry Forum Lecture Review

2023-06-13리얼월드

Hello, today I'd like to share news about a lecture I gave at the Korea Culture & Tourism Institute on developing killer content-centered tourism resources that drive continuous visitor flow to spaces.

The Korea Culture & Tourism Institute is located in a quiet area of Gangseo-gu.

As the bold text displayed at the institute's entrance states,

it's a very important institution for improving national happiness and competitiveness through policy research in culture, arts, tourism, and content - particularly crucial for enhancing our quality of life.

I must confess that I didn't even know such a place existed before I was invited to lecture there.

However, being invited as a speaker to the Tourism Industry Forum, I learned what the Korea Culture & Tourism Institute is and what this organization does.
Now that I know, it's all good ^^

The topic Realworld prepared for this day was developing killer tourism resources that drive continuous visitor flow to spaces by adding stories and technology to regional tourism resources.

Let's think about this for a moment.

There's something missing in regional tourism resource development.

What could that be?

As a tourist myself, this was something quite disappointing about regional tourism experiences.

What's missing is the unique stories that can only be felt in that particular region!!!

Often when visiting a region for tourism, you can't learn about the unique stories that belong only to that area.

Actually, when I travel to a region, I don't want to ride cable cars, suspension bridges, or monorails.

(Why are there cable cars, sky walks, suspension bridges, and monorails everywhere? ㅜㅜ)

Is that why?

Just to see natural scenery, take photos, or visit local restaurants, I lacked sufficient motivation to invest time and money in regional tourism.

So I'd rather go abroad. Tourism should definitely be overseas~~~ I'd invest a bit more time and money to travel internationally.

To experience that fresh uniqueness that overseas destinations offer me.

But wait a minute!

What if regional tourism offered fresh, unique experiences? What if there was sufficient experiential content to feel the region's story?

프로젝트 이미지

The reason we need to create unique experiential content in regions is deeply connected to regional stay duration.

Between one hunger and the next, there must be enough entertainment to keep people in the region, which then generates additional meaningful local consumption.

Cafes and bakeries are everywhere, and we're often too full to eat something else.

This is why we need powerful, unique regional experiences that let you feel the local story - something to sustain you until the next hunger!

While many public-led tourism resource development projects are underway, sometimes creating complex cultural spaces, urban regeneration, and activating idle spaces under various names, it seems difficult for them to truly win citizens' love.

프로젝트 이미지

Despite significant budgets, I often see empty spaces.

As we all know, exhibition halls, studios, and education centers can't generate foot traffic.

VR and XR experience centers that everyone competitively introduced have now become troublesome spaces full of maintenance issues.

So they competitively add large cafes, but you know what? Large cafes are overflowing everywhere.

They create cafes to generate foot traffic, but there are already too many places to drink coffee and eat bread.

To extend stay duration in regional tourism, experiential tourism content featuring unique regional stories that allow for 90+ minute stays is absolutely necessary.

Static exhibition viewing or so-called 'experiences' that involve watching and light participation under 1 minute cannot be considered true experiences in the strict sense. These simple experiences also can't accommodate multiple participants.

This is why regions need active leisure - adventure tourism content.

프로젝트 이미지

Adventure tourism refers to tourism content that connects genres like history, sci-fi, ecology/nature, romance, and comedy - like Netflix movie content genres - with regional tourism resources, allowing visitors to become protagonists in the story and experience it directly in the space.

Like movie characters or celebrities having fun on variety shows, any tourist can play excitedly without special direction!

Such adventure tourism content is possible not only in regional outdoor spaces but also indoors.

You can experience it directly at Realworld Seongsu, called the hottest place among Seoul Seongsu-dong's hot spots.

For those curious about Realworld Seongsu, please refer to the article below.

It's famous as a Seongsu hot spot where many large corporations come for insight trips, curious about not just tourism but new content and MZ generation leisure and play culture.

At the Tourism Industry Forum, I focused on discussing regional tourism's killer content and shifting from hardware-centered approaches to software content-centered thinking to extend regional tourism stay duration.

I hope this was helpful, especially since the Korea Culture & Tourism Institute is an organization that improves national happiness and competitiveness through policy research in culture, arts, tourism, and content.

I concluded today's tourism resource development lecture at the Korea Culture & Tourism Institute with the following three approaches.

Personally, since both my parents ran their own businesses during my childhood, I have deep interest in local areas and local commercial district revitalization.

I think it's because I know directly and indirectly how scary the collapse of commercial districts can be in the face of regional hollowing out and changing times and environments, and how great the sighs and difficulties of small business owners can be.

That's why the interactive content platform Realworld is consistently focused on regional tourism, regional commercial districts, urban regeneration, regional economic revitalization, and regional youth employment.

Since social problems arise faster than their solutions, we will solve many problems in this era with UniqueGood solutions - the interactive content platform Realworld.

Today I introduced regional tourism content and tourism resource development stories.

I'll return with better news and stories next time.
