Last December, an interactive content platform Realworld held a competition for crime scene themed games, which can be considered the platform's signature content.
It was none other than
<The 1st Realworld Clue Competition>
Due to more submissions than expected,
even the judging schedule had to be extended
(So hot, so popular ㄷㄷ)
Among the numerous competing works, there's one that won
3rd place.
It's Brown Studio's <Wishes Made with Hearts Together>.
Wishes Made with Hearts Together opened new horizons for Realworld crime scene themed games by presenting
the fresh subject of Eastern occult,
a solid narrative,
and a new gameplay format.

UniqueGood finally got to meet and interview Brown Studio.
This interview was conducted via ZOOM, so we couldn't meet the creator in person,
but it was a great opportunity to hear the creator's thoughts and behind-the-scenes stories.
<Interview with 3rd Place Winner Brown Studio>
Q Hello, creator. Nice to meet you.
Please introduce yourself first.
Hello, I'm Shin Euihan from Brown Studio, who created <Wishes Made with Hearts Together>.
Q What does Brown Studio mean?
Actually, it doesn't have any deep meaning.
Rather than spending time thinking about a name, I wanted to quickly create content,
so I didn't think too long and just combined words I liked.
Q How did you come to participate in the competition?
I originally liked crime scene themed games and had experience creating them myself,
and I've also translated Japanese murder mystery games.
A friend who knew this introduced me to the 'Realworld Clue Competition', so I decided to participate.
Q What did you pay most attention to when creating Wishes Made with Hearts Together?
Personally, I prefer narrative-based deduction over item-focused investigation.
When playing offline crime scene themes, having physical cards was fine,
but online, too many items made it hard to concentrate.
And when I couldn't catch the culprit, the gaming experience wasn't satisfying.
So I wanted to plan a game where players reach the answer by deducing the narrative.
Q So that's why the gameplay format was different from existing crime scene themes.
Was not limiting time for each phase also due to this planning intention?
Yes, I think crime scene themes must have a good ending.
So I gave players plenty of time to reach the good ending,
and let them solve it themselves by bringing up hidden stories and talking with each other.
Q Wishes Made with Hearts Together was especially unique and interesting with its Eastern occult theme.
Is there a reason you chose Eastern occult?
Actually, Wishes Made with Hearts Together was originally a SF fantasy worldview scenario.
It dealt with serial murders occurring at a research facility.
But I thought I needed material that could bring out the core trick of Wishes Made with Hearts Together more attractively, so I changed it to Eastern occult.
When people think of occult, they all think of Japan, but Korea actually has many interesting and unique occult materials too.
Q What is Korean-style occult?
Korean occult can be expressed with the single word 'yearning'.
Isn't it terrifying how people perform sorcery with the heart of wanting something?
I wanted to introduce this charm of Korean occult to others.
Q Do you originally like horror genres? 👻
Surprisingly, I'm a bit scared of horror.
Among Realworld horror games, the 'Paradise' series was famous, but I got scared and quit while playing...😵💫
Go play 'that game' that even the occult game creator quit out of fear

Q What was the most joyful and rewarding aspect during the competition?
I was happiest when reading long, immersive reviews.
Seeing comments like who was pitiful, whose letter was touching, etc.,
and people leaving reviews saying they enjoyed playing and it was good made me happy😊
Q On the contrary, what was the most difficult or challenging aspect?
It was hard when I received negative feedback.
I had an offline test once, and a friend said it was the worst crime scene themed game they'd ever played.
I was upset at the time, but thanks to their honesty, I was able to fix the lacking parts.
Q Perhaps because of the title <Wishes Made with Hearts Together>,
at first glance it looks like an emotional theme game,
is there a reason you didn't emphasize horror?
Actually, during the competition judging, I received feedback about the title of Wishes Made with Hearts Together
and considered changing it.
I also thought about making the key visual more terrifying.
But after long consideration, I decided not to change it.
Because I didn't intend and plan Wishes Made with Hearts Together as a horror crime scene theme.
While the subject matter is scary, if you look closely, it's a very sad story dealing with fate and sacrifice.
Rather than confining it to the stimulating theme of horror, I wanted to convey the story well, so I pushed forward with my beliefs.
And as those who played the game know, the title actually has meaning too.
I also didn't change it because I wanted to explain it in the behind-the-scenes.
Q Are there any memorable incidents or episodes during game production?
I want to talk about someone who helped me.
They gave me feedback on typos, spacing, and design, and helped with proofreading.
Maybe because their MBTI is INTP (lol), they gave very direct feedback.
I remember waking up and checking my phone to find three or four feedback messages.
Honestly, I didn't feel great receiving the feedback, but I accepted it because it was all correct.
I was really grateful for their help!
Q What's your MBTI, creator?
I'm ISFP!
So I don't plan completion schedules and create content by adding little bits whenever ideas come to mind.
Doing this makes it take a very long time to complete one thing.
Q Do you have plans for your next work?
Yes! 👍
It's a parallel world concept,
a story about a protagonist who was living an ordinary day but wakes up in a different world.
You could call it modern SF.
But there are parts that can only be implemented offline,
so unfortunately I don't think I can create it on Realworld.
Q The 2nd Realworld Clue Competition is currently being held,
do you intend to participate?
No...😖
Actually, participating in the 1st competition was very stressful.
I worried a lot about getting hate comments.
I'm the type who takes a long time to complete works.
From thinking of the subject matter to completion takes 6 months to a year.
Wishes Made with Hearts Together was also a story I thought of a very long time ago.
Given my characteristics, it's hard to immediately think of content that works for competitions,
and I'm ambitious by nature, so I want to challenge when I have a good work prepared!
Q Finally, is there anything you'd like to say to the players?
I thought Wishes Made with Hearts Together would be a polarizing crime scene theme,
but thank you all for playing it so enjoyably🙂
I hope you had a pleasant experience playing Wishes Made with Hearts Together.
I'll return with better stories, so please support me anytime, anywhere.
Thank you!
Through this interview,
we could learn what thoughts Brown Studio's creator had
while producing <Wishes Made with Hearts Together>.
We could feel that they really thought deeply about even the smallest details,
and thanks to that, such a masterpiece could be born.
