Hello, today in celebration of Gender Equality Week,
we're here with news about Realworld's experiential workshop <Find the Boss>,
an unconscious bias awareness education program
focused on gender bias.
By the way, everyone,
do you know about Gender Equality Week?
I actually had no idea this week existed,
and I suspect many of you might feel the same way,
so I searched for Gender Equality Week on Naver.
Gender Equality Week is a week established to realize the ideal of substantial gender equality through work-life balance practices across all areas of politics, economics, society, and culture through harmonious development between men and women.
It's been held annually from September 1st to 7th since 2020.
What started as Women's Week in 1996 was changed to Gender Equality Week in 2015 and has continued to this day in 2023, working toward gender equality.
Why am I only learning about this now?
(Especially considering I'm a woman!)
Despite Gender Equality Week having such a long history,
most events held during this week are limited to commemorative ceremonies,
one-off campaigns, unrelated special lectures, and exhibitions.
Since the change to Gender Equality Week in 2015 through 2023,
our times have changed faster than ever before,
but it's unfortunate that there's a lack of appropriate educational content to match.
Especially since we're still stuck with one-way, passive lecture formats.
Organizations running Gender Equality Week must have many concerns,
because gender equality is a concept rooted in people's consciousness
and cannot be resolved through one-way education or exhibition events alone.
The experiential education created to solve these problems is
Realworld's interactive workshop <Find the Boss>.
Realworld's <Find the Boss> is
a gender bias discovery experiential workshop
that combines smart immersive technology with gamification.
The educational curriculum consists of experiential activities
designed to recognize unconscious bias
and develop a fair perspective on gender equality.
It's a workshop program designed to help participants
realize their own unconscious biased perspectives
without even knowing it.
The biggest feature is that instead of simple rote lectures,
it's designed for learners to actively participate
through gamified experiences that fully utilize
the Realworld app system integrated with immersive technology.
Shall we see how actual learners
experienced the interactive workshop <Find the Boss>?
With their smartphones in hand,
what clues are the learners so eagerly searching for
in the mysterious posters and QR codes?
The learners take on the mission of secret agents
to find the boss of a multinational IT company shrouded in mystery.
While carrying out this mission with colleagues,
they naturally discover gender bias
that was unconsciously embedded within them.
As you can see from the educational scene in the video,
learners don't just sit quietly and listen to an instructor's lecture,
but actively move around the classroom searching for clues with colleagues.
In this process, they naturally undergo the process
of examining their own unconscious bias.
Since bias is embedded in our unconscious,
we cannot correct that perception until we realize it ourselves.
That's why it must be conducted through experiential education
where learners directly participate.
The detailed structure consists of
carrying out missions and drawing the boss's composite sketch,
followed by gender bias awareness and mutual discussion.
Through wrap-up after the experience,
we share and discuss various domestic and international bias issue cases
to understand the organizational and social losses that bias creates.
Learners come to think about prejudice themselves
and consider together what individuals should start practicing
to reduce that bias.
Therefore,
it can be said to precisely address the core of what
Gender Equality Week truly pursues and wants to improve.
Today, in celebration of Gender Equality Week
held annually from September 1st to 8th,
we shared a review of Realworld's experiential workshop
<Find the Boss> education program.
Since <Find the Boss> will be conducted
at various institutions during this week,
we'll share more reviews later.
