It's Jeonju!
So why did we go to Jeonju?
It was to participate in the Jeonju Cultural Heritage Night Tour held on May 26-27 :)
Jeonju Cultural Heritage Night Tour is
a nighttime cultural enjoyment program that uses the region's unique historical and cultural resources centered around areas where cultural heritage sites are concentrated and clustered, featuring nighttime viewing (opening) of cultural heritage, experiences, performances, exhibitions, and more!
Just hearing this doesn't give you a clear picture, right?
Let me tell you about more specific programs and reviews~
Follow follow me~~~
As mentioned earlier, Jeonju Cultural Heritage Night Tour had numerous programs prepared where you could experience various activities using Jeonju region's unique historical cultural heritage.
The pamphlet was also special~
Fitting the concept of cultural heritage night tour, programs were divided into 8 夜(night) themes:
Night View•Night Path•Night History•Night Story•Night Tale•Night Stay•Night Food•Night Market.
Thanks to this, the nighttime event concept felt extra special. (❁´◡`❁)
However, since there were many programs within each theme, it was difficult to participate in all of them.
Many programs overlapped in time ㅜㅜ
You need to choose and focus!
So! For you all~ I've selected some fun programs worth enjoying from all these numerous programs!
< Programs to Enjoy at Jeonju Cultural Heritage Night Tour >
Due to program timing, I focused on 'Jeolla Governor's Office Crime Scene.'
So in this post, 'Jeolla Governor's Office' review takes up the biggest portion :)
Recommendation 1. Jeolla Governor's Office Crime Scene🗣️
Synopsis: A crime scene theme game based on the 'Kang Tae-yoon murder case' recorded in the Jeolla Governor's records.
Structure: Opening courtyard play - Solving quests - Getting stamps - Ending play.
How to play: Each pavilion has one character, and solving each character's quest lets you hear their testimony. After the testimony, you can receive a stamp.
Ending: You need 4 stamps to see the ending play (though in reality, anyone could watch it).
As a side note, there were many people behind us who couldn't get any stamps at all.
What was good :)
When watching the opening & ending plays and playing the game, you could watch professional actors' performances right up close, which gave great immersion!
Also, during the game, you could communicate with the actors and touch props (like petitions(?)), so you could really feel the interactive elements. (Immersion BEST)
Additionally, during the game, green light indicated general testimony while red light indicated truthful inner testimony, which was an interesting element.
Lastly, each character had a specific difficulty level, and the clues you could obtain varied by difficulty, which was refreshing.
(Higher difficulty meant more useful clues.)
What was disappointing :)
While a specific character's (the culprit's) quest was related to the case details, it was disappointing that you couldn't figure it out except through the case resolution (keeping it vague to avoid spoilers...)
Also, according to the rules, you needed to get 4 or more stamps, but with so many people, getting 4 stamps within the time limit wasn't easy.
Additionally, the balance of clues for each role was disappointing.
(Even knowing the case details, it was difficult to deduce clues about important characters ㅜ)
Lastly, there was no notice about the opening play that starts the crime scene theme, so we had the mishap of missing the opening play.ㅜㅜ
+ Not this year, but last year required teams of 4 to enter. Many couldn't play because they couldn't form a team of 4,,
Overall Review :)
Jeolla Governor's Office Crime Scene had good immersion as participants directly visited the characters' rooms, solved problems, and approached the truth of the case through characters' dialogue and props. The introduction of the 'testimony' system felt particularly unique - testimony meaning 'case statements' from the Joseon era, a system that only told the truth. This testimony was indicated by green lanterns for general statements and red lanterns for truthful statements, and being able to do detective work through this testimony system felt fresh.
What was disappointing was that the guidelines weren't well followed. The play revealing the case details was supposed to run twice at 7:20 and 9:20, with only participants who collected 4 or more character stamps allowed to enter. In reality, they didn't check stamps and to accommodate many people, even participants who didn't get any stamps could watch the play directly. We also ended up watching the play that reveals the case details without hearing all characters' testimonies due to time constraints. However, when watching the play, there were many stories that could only be understood by hearing the characters' problems and testimonies, so if someone watched the play without solving any problems, they probably wouldn't understand the case details well. That's why the operation methods related to this felt somewhat disappointing. Additionally, last year they charged participation fees and ran only 9 teams while using a 'coin' system where you could also get clues from shops, but the complete disappearance of this system this time left much to be desired.
Recommendation 2. Gyeonggijeon Zombie Chronicles🧟
Synopsis: Find the missing Joseon Dynasty Records to let 'them' rest in peace.
40 minutes per session. 3 total sessions. Takes place inside Jeonju Gyeonggijeon, 20,000 won for 4 people.
(Areas are divided.)
Zone 1 - Get the royal physician's letter! (Secretly solve the box to check the message)
Zone 2 - Get Son Hong-rok's letter and identification tag! (Avoid zombies and collect 3 stamps to get the box)
Zone 3 - Find the last volume of records to put the zombie king to sleep! (Find 1 volume of records by getting 1 out of 10 boxes)
※This is a program that requires advance reservation.
On-site booking is also available starting from 19:00. (Only 30 teams)
(But when we went at 7 PM, on-site booking sold out in 5 minutes;; If you want to do it, I recommend advance booking!)
What was good :)
It was unique experiential content that well utilized the characteristics of Gyeonggijeon + hanok + escape room + nighttime event.
The zombie element had a clearer concept than other events, drawing attention.
(You could interact with large-scale zombie actors..ㅎㄷㄷ Also, the screaming was quite the hotspot(?).)
What was disappointing :)
After completing stages 1 and 2, from stage 3 onwards, 10 teams wait, but the program ends when the first-place team emerges.
→ When the first-place team emerges, a zombie parade performance begins.
(Many waiting teams ended up watching the performance without knowing what happened...)
It's about 5,000 won per person for 40 minutes... but if a first-place team emerges, you can't see the ending...
The cost-effectiveness for everyone except the first-place team is...sobbing
Overall Review :)
With increased appeal from advance booking & on-site booking (reservation viral) plus the clear appeal of the 'zombie' theme. Zombie + hanok (Kingdom) content enjoyed at night is so attractive,,
In the final stage, the program completely ends on a first-come-first-served basis,, which can be anticlimactic.
Only 1 team out of 40 can see the ending, while the other 39 teams can't see it and even have to leave midway. Haha,,,
But! Despite this, there were many people who tried every year to become first place.
(Got new inspiration(?) for program operation directions that could satisfy everyone.)
Recommendation 3. Catch the Cultural Heritage Grave Robbers🥷
Catch the Cultural Heritage Grave Robbers - A sticker version of stamp tours.
You need to get stickers from NPCs located throughout the cultural heritage sites.
Recommendation 4. Surprisingly Fun Stories and Experiences🎤
Cultural Heritage Storytellers - On the west and north stone wall paths of Gyeonggijeon, storytellers dressed as officials tell interesting stories of Jeonju's 500-year history in old Korean language style.
+The storyteller was handsome,,,memo,,,
Jeolla Governor's Office Returns - The governors who managed Jeolla Governor's Office tell realistic historical stories.
+Full of wit! Full of eloquence!
Street Artist of Cultural Heritage - You can get a one-of-a-kind portrait drawn by a Joseon dynasty court painter!
+If you want to get something special! I recommend this!
Besides these, there were really many other programs along with
parades, performances (concerts), EDM festivals, fireworks, etc.
So many things to enjoy!
Too much... huff...huff...
